Do you think that the American people need to adopt a "Live and Let Live" mentality?

It is my personal opinion that we need to adopt a "Live and Let Live" mentality. All to often I hear people go off on a tirade about "gays", "illegals", "libs", "cons" and so on. Personally I think that this has gotten out of control, it seems as if there are a lot of people who hate (possibly to strong of a word) anyone with a view or lifestyle different than their own. In a country as diverse as ours we must learn to live with each others differences. How do you feel about this and why?
