Is it possible too much chess theory could actually be hindering my game?

If you love chess you don't have to quit it. It is probable that since you know so many theories and strategies that you are trying to use multiple ones at the same time. This of course will ruin you game so I suggest laying off the books for a bit and not trying to use theories or strategies much.
