Allied health degree?

i just finished my aos degree and was hoping to attend college for medical sonography. however they said i need an allied health degree. im still confused on what exactly that is .... is it an aas? so now im wondering... do i go to school for cardio sonography since i cant do the medical sonography without that degree, or do a radiology program?
