Michelin Star - How Does a restaurant get one?

I would think that getting a Michelin star would be like getting reviewed by the LA or NY Times newspapers, but harder since it's international. Usually a restaurant has to build its own reputation and hype so that it becomes well known enough on its own. Then reviewers might hear about it from somebody they know or maybe read lots of good things on the web and decide to write a review about it. Then they would pay you a visit. For Michelin, having a world renowned chef is always a good step. Try having the chef enter into cooking competitions or something. You might want to check Zagat. They may have a different system of choosing which places to visit and rate.
